UltraFlex Power Technologies - supplier of the most innovative digitally controlled induction heating solutions in the industry - recently published the results achieved during cable soldering tests using induction heating. In the tests, cables had to be soldered to a me tallic plate, achieving the best possible soldering time via fine tuning of the induction heating equipment.
UltraFlex compact, economical 2kW induction heating system from the UltraHeat S series had been used in this demo. With just 11 lb (5 kg) of weight, this system is quite easy to transport, maintain and service.
The initial tests showed that using power of up to 0.72 kW, the soldering process could be completed within 4.5 to 14 seconds, under temperature of 482°F (250°C). Tuning the induction heating system, however, allowed to decrease the soldering time approximately 3 times, to less than 5 seconds. The system adjustments included increasing the frequency from under 200 kHz to over 300 kHz, as well as increasing the power to the maximum for the heating unit.
The tests proved the time and cost efficiency of induction heating for cable soldering. They also showed the ease with which optimizations could be applied not only to this soldering process, but to any manufacturing process where induction heating is involved.
